The Position

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, serve as student advisor and contact person for EOPS students indicating financial academic, cultural or linguistic need.

Major Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing and maintaining liaison with high schools, Adult Education Centers, community social services agencies and community organizations.
  • Assist students and the public by providing information concerning educational and financial aid opportunities; assist students completing applications.
  • Identify local establishments and recreational areas that are frequented by potential EOPS students.
  • Assist students in making contact with faculty and administrators.
  • Assist supervisor in the development of techniques for the recruitment of non-traditional students.
  • Maintain regular contact with students to access college progress and future college choice; recommend tutorial services according to established procedures.
  • Make presentations to groups in the community concerning EOPS program.
  • Attend staff meetings and workshops as required.
  • Disseminate college EOPS information in the community through circulation brochures, pamphlets and flyers.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.

  • Principles, practices, procedures and equipment of assigned subject area.
  • Problems and needs of EOPS students and low income families.
  • Record-keeping techniques.
  • Technical aspects of field of specialty.

    Skills and Abilities:
  • Advise students concerning EOPS and other college and community resources.
  • Assist supervisor in developing recruitment techniques.
  • Attend staff meetings and workshops.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate competence in the field of specialty.
  • Ensure the care and security of assigned equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Issue and receive equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Make oral presentations.
  • Meet schedules and time lines.
  • Plan and organize work.
  • Train and furnish work direction to others.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.

    Training and Experience:
    Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: graduation from high school and 18 units of community college credits.
