The Position

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, accompany choirs, soloists and small ensembles for rehearsals and concerts; may assist instructor by conducting choral rehearsals in the absence of the instructor.

Major Responsibilities EXAMPLE OF DUTIES


  • Accompany choirs, soloists and small ensembles for rehearsals and concerts.
  • Rehearse with vocal students for solos performed in voice classes and recitals.
  • Lead section rehearsals by playing parts.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications


  • Advanced piano skills.
  • Advanced music theory and composition.
  • Vocal techniques.
  • Sight reading, conducting and coaching methods.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

    Skills and Abilities:

  • Play the piano at the advanced level.
  • Sight read complex musical scores.
  • Accompany choirs, soloists and small ensembles.
  • Assist students in learning vocal music interpretations and technical aspects of music.

    Training and Abilities:

  • Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by private or college-level training in piano, music theory and composition and at least one year experience as an accompanist.
